He was just a common carpenter, grew up the small town way,
He loved His mama, and He learned His father's trade.
Thirty years He practiced, until He was the best,
By any earthly standard a success.

One day He closed the shop, said I have to go away,
The whole world is waiting and I just cannot stay.
Friends said, "He's finished," as they shook their heads and frowned,
And watched Him slowly walk out of the town,
But the work had just begun, when He laid His hammer down.
